ICS-LJM Laser JailMaster

The ICS-LJM protects individuals and equipment from high-power laser hazards by actively monitoring enclosures using Lasermet’s Active Guarding technology.

It features advanced monitoring capabilities, including:

  • Real-time detection of enclosure breaches
  • Four Active Guarding monitoring circuits in the main unit
  • Expansion units for extended functionality
  • Automatic laser shutdown in the event of a fault
  • Fail-safe arming logic to prevent accidental reactivation

Description

ICS-LJM for Active Guarding Control

The Laser JailMaster ICS-LJM is Lasermet’s next-generation laser interlock controller, engineered to deliver robust protection against accidental exposure to laser hazards.

Formerly known as LJIM (Laser Jailer Interface Module), the ICS-LJM actively monitors laser enclosures using Lasermet’s Active Guarding technology, ensuring the safety of both personnel and equipment.

The ICS-LJM continuously checks the integrity of enclosure walls and windows fitted with the Laser Jailer® Active Guarding System. If any part of the enclosure is compromised, the system immediately shuts down the laser.

Integrated Interlock® Control

The main ICS-LJM unit includes two interlock operator outputs and four independent Active Guarding circuits.

Expandable for Complex Systems

The expansion unit ICS-LJM-SO, the Son of Laser JailMaster, can be used for added functionality. Connect up to 31 expansion units, each providing four additional Active Guarding circuits, allowing scalable protection for large or multi-room enclosures.

Fail-Safe Arming Logic

The system is designed so that it requires two external volt free contacts (typically from a PLC) to arm. The system will only arm if all Active Guarding circuits are valid and safety conditions are met.

Prevention of Unexpected Laser Activation

Once a fault is detected during an arm request, the system will not arm — even if the faults clears — until the arm signal is reset and reissued. It is not possible to arm the system at all if there is a fault already present.

ICS-LJM System Overview

System overview of ICS-LJM with Inputs and outputs.

The ICS-LJM serves as the central control unit in a high-power laser safety system. It connects to the expansion unit ICS-LJM-SO, which in turn receives input from the Active Guarding Circuits installed on the walls and windows of the laser enclosure.

These circuits continuously monitor the enclosure for any breaches or laser leakage, ensuring real-time safety monitoring. The ICS-LJM can also be integrated with Lasermet`s CaLM (Control and Laser Monitoring), allowing the system status and active guarding panels to be displayed on a monitor for easy fault identification and system diagnostics.

The laser is connected to the ICS-LJM through dual-channel volt free contacts, ensuring it only activates when all safety conditions are met. This seamless integration creates a reliable, fail-safe solution for laser safety and enables tagging of related products such as the ICS-LJM SO, Active Guarding Panels, CaLM, and dual-channel interlocked lasers.

This integrated setup provides a robust and fail-safe solution for high-power laser safety, making it easy to tag related products like ICS-LJM-SO, Active Guarding Panels, CaLM, and dual-channel interlocked lasers as part of one seamless safety system.
