Redesigned Air-cooled Beam Dump: BD-AC-16 and BD-AC-16TR

Lasermet is excited to reintroduce the BD-AC-16 series, with two models – BD-AC-16 and BD-AC-16TR. The redesigned BD-AC-16 Series sets a new standard in functionality, featuring an enhanced heat sink with increased fin count and surface area for faster and efficient heat dissipation. Made from high thermal conductivity anodised aluminium, it ensures reliable performance and prevents overheating—even under demanding conditions.
Beam dumps are a critical component of any laser safety system, especially in environments using high-power, high-density lasers. They protect both personnel and equipment by safely absorbing stray and reflected laser beams.
The BD-AC-16TR is an enhanced version of the BD-AC-16, now featuring a built-in display to show real-time temperature readings. For setups where the beam dump isn’t easily visible, it can also be connected to an external monitor via an RS485 module ensuring safe, remote monitoring at all times. The BD-AC-16 base model requires no power once connected with a laser shutter.
For any high-power laser setup requiring more controlled workspace. It protects both your personnel and your equipment by safely absorbing stray and reflected laser beams—especially in compact setups like optical tables where precision matters most. There are also other laser applications that require beam tubes or beam path covers, the air-cooled beam dump can be integrated to ensure safe and contained beam termination.
Shutter Compatibility
A beam dump should be used with a compatible laser shutter. When a laser shutter redirects a laser beam, the beam dump must be precisely aligned and capable of absorbing the full power to prevent stray reflections that could harm personnel or damage equipment. Proper compatibility ensures accurate beam termination, effective heat dissipation, and reliable system performance while supporting compliance with laser safety standards.
Lasermet offers a range of laser shutters fully compatible with the BD-AC-16 Series of beam dumps, ensuring safe, reliable, and precise beam termination.
LS-20 High Integrity Laser Shutter

For external laser shutter, the BD-AC-16 models is compatible as long as the laser specifications and wavelengths are within the beam dump capacity.
Laser Shutter and Beam Dump Set-up
When integrating a beam dump with a laser shutter, ensure it’s precisely aligned to capture the deflected beam. Use a beam alignment tool during setup—any misalignment can result in stray laser beams escaping, posing a risk to personnel safety.
The BD-AC-16 Series features a removable BD-LS connector, allowing for quick and efficient integration—especially when a laser shutter is already installed. The connector simplifies the process and there is no need for disassembly. Watch the demo video featuring the LS-30 and BD-AC-16TR in action.
Safety Considerations
These few reminders should be taken into consideration when choosing, maintaining and using a beam dump.

Always use beam dumps rated for the power and wavelength of your laser.

Incorporate into the laser’s interlock system, if possible.

Regularly inspect for damage, burn marks, or degraded materials.

Use in conjunction with laser safety eyewear, signs, and enclosures.
The latest models of our air-cooled beam dump features an upgraded design for enhanced thermal performance and operational safety. With improved airflow, an expanded fin structure, and high-conductivity anodized aluminum, it efficiently dissipates heat—even under continuous high-power laser exposure. Built for reliability, precision, and protection.
