DURATION

Each Training Session lasts approximately 4-6 Hours including Question Time and Discussion.

Course Content

The course is based on the Core of Knowledge syllabus contained in the MHRA Device Bulletin “Lasers, intense light source systems and LEDs – guidance for safe use in medical, surgical, dental and aesthetic practices”. By concentrating on these aspects, the requirements of RQIA, HIW, CQC and local authority standards will be met.

The main topics include:

  • Laser and IPL radiation characteristics
  • Radiation generation
  • Laser and IPL radiation (tissue interaction)
  • Eye and skin exposure
  • Precautions to keep exposure below Maximum Permissible Exposure levels (MPE)
  • Reflection and absorption hazards
  • Hazards to patient
  • Laser and IPL safety management
  • Risk assessment
  • Incidental hazards
  • Relevant standards
  • Quality assurance
  • Equipment management
  • Role of the LPA and LPS

Note that this is a Laser & IPL Core of Knowledge Safety Training course and does not address treatment protocols or clinical training.

Dr Anna Bass has been with the Lasermet team since 2007, covering the South and South East regions as the Certificated Laser Protection Adviser (LPA). She has a PhD from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, an MSc from the University of Akron, Ohio and a BSc from the University of Portsmouth (UK). Her Post-Graduate Certificate of Education enables her to skilfully present Lasermet’s Core of Knowledge training courses. She is also a member of the British Medical Laser Association and holds an RPA-2000 Certificate of Competence to act as a Medical LPA.

ONLINE COURSE

The training course is delivered live online using Zoom.

SCHEDULE

Core of Knowledge training is scheduled from 10:30 AM – 15:00 PM local UK time.

Course Certificate

All course attendees receive electronic notes and a certificate of attendance.

CANCELLATION TERMS
  • Greater than 10 days prior to the course – 80% refund
  • Between 48 hours and 10 days prior to the course –  50% refund
  • Within 48 hours of the course or non-attendance –  No refund

Lasermet reserves the right to refuse transfer to another course in the event of cancellation or failure to attend. If space is available, the next scheduled course may be offered at a re-booking fee of £50. Once the re-booking fee has been paid, no refund will be given and no further transfer option provided if the candidate cancels or fails to attend the rescheduled session.
