ICS-TOUCH II – Dual-Channel, Touchscreen Interlock System for Medical Laser Safety

ICS TOUCH II WEB by Lasermet Laser Safety Solutions

Lasermet proudly announces the launch of the ICS-TOUCH II, the next generation touchscreen interlock controller and the direct upgrade to our legacy interlock systems used widely in medical and controlled environments.

Building on the proven reliability of our previous model — including interlock control units originally designed for laser and X-ray safety — the ICS-TOUCH II introduces a modern, intuitive 24-inch touchscreen interface, enhanced dual-channel safety architecture, and expanded compatibility with medical—grade lasers.

Designed for surgical suites, treatment rooms, and clinical laser-controlled areas, the ICS-TOUCH II ensures safety remains seamless, visible, and fully compliant with today’s most stringent medical safety standards.

Engineered to Modern Medical Laser Environments

Healthcare professionals conducting a laser surgical procedure in a clinic setting.

Medical Laser rooms are becoming increasingly complex — with multiple devices, diverse wavelengths , and tighter safety regulations. ICS-TOUCH II was developed specifically to address these challenges while maintaining seamless operation for clinicians.

At its core, ICS-TOUCH II is a DIN-rail mounted control unit paired with a sleek 24-inch touchscreen interface, typically wall-mounted near the operating room entrance. The interface displays real-time system status and allows authorised personnel to safely arm or disarm the laser system based on the verified state of all safety inputs.

Key Features

Touchscreen interface (available in 10″ and 24″) provides clear, real-time display of interlock status, laser readiness, and essential safety information for intuitive system control.

Up to 10 Individually Monitored Interlock Inputs compatible with medical-grade door interlocks, safety shutters, window blinds, and E-Stop buttons – all monitored via dual redundant safety channels

Access control via key switch or PIN ensures only authorised personnel can activate and arm the system, providing strict operational control in clinical and laser-restricted environments.

EN ISO 13849-1 PL ‘e’ compliant, built on dual-channel architecture to achieve the highest level of functional safety in critical laser-controlled environments.

3 Fail-Safe Interlock Outputs used to control magnetic interlocks (e.g., ICS-MDC-12) for single or double doors and medical-grade roller blinds.

Feedback Monitoring ensures all connected devices (locks, shutters, lasers) return to a known safe state before arming.

Enhancing Safety Without Disrupting Workflow

While safety is priority, medical environments demand uninterrupted efficiency. ICS-TOUCH II is designed to be both technically robust and operationally seamless, offering:

  • Fast System status checks at the door
  • Safe multi-laser switching via coded outlets
  • Isolated power monitoring for all safety-critical circuits
  • User feedback via LED indicators and touchscreen alerts

All of this ensures compliance with local and international laser safety standards – while maintaining the flexibility needed for busy clinical workflows

The ICS-TOUCH II is equipped with 10 individually monitored safety interlock inputs. Each using dual-channel (A and B) monitoring to ensure system integrity and compliance with EN ISO 13849-1 Performance Level ‘e’.

LED indicators will illuminate:

  • Interlock OK
  • Interlock Open
Digital Clock
CLOCK by Lasermet Laser Safety Solutions

A digital clock on the ICS-TOUCH II touchscreen shows the current time (HH:MM:SS) and date (MM/DD/YY) in 24-hour format, aiding time-sensitive operations and maintenance.

It updates in real time based on the configured system settings.

Arming
ARMING by Lasermet Laser Safety Solutions

Allows activation and deactivation of laser systems. Includes a Pin-protected keyswitch for security and an arming button to initiate laser operation.

LED indicators will illuminate:

  • Keyswitch Enabled
  • Laser Armed/Active
  • Disabled/Inactive

keycode incorrect by Lasermet Laser Safety Solutions

Before enabling the keyswitch, a 4-digit PIN must be entered on the on-screen keypad that appears after selecting the keyswitch icon. If an incorrect code is entered, “Incorrect PIN” will be displayed on the interface, and access will be denied.

LED Sign Status Display
LED ULTRA SIGN by Lasermet Laser Safety Solutions

The ICS-TOUCH II drives a two-state LED warning sign that automatically shows either:

No Hazard Laser Off when disarmed or interlocks are unsafe

Danger Laser On when armed and outputs are active

Driven by a changeover relay, the sign provides synchronised, fail-safe visual indication in line with IEC 60825.

Interlock® System

External to Theatre are the LED Ultra Sign, Door Interlock Switches, Magnetic Door Lock, Keypad, E-Stop Break Glass and LED Mini Sign. The LED Ultra Sign displays the realtime status of the laser whether it’s Active “Danger Laser On” or Inactive “No Hazard Laser Off”. This plays a big role in laser status monitoring. Interlock Switches are dual-channel

External to Theatre:

  • Door Magnetic Switches – Installed on double doors to detect open/closed status. These are coded magnetic interlocks and are part of the safety circuit (dual-channel A & B).
  • Door Magnetic Locks – Hold the door closed while the laser is active, released when unsafe conditions occur.
  • Keypad (PIN Entry) – Used to authenticate personnel before enabling the system. Only after PIN entry can the keyswitch function be activated on the interface.
  • E-Stop Break Glass Units – Emergency stops mounted outside allow immediate laser shutdown by breaking the glass.
  • LED Ultra Sign / Mini Sign – Clearly indicate system status. Displays “DANGER LASER ON” when the system is armed and laser emission is possible.

Within Theatre:

  • ICS-TOUCH II Interface – The central touchscreen controller where users can:
    • View interlock status (doors, E-Stops)
    • Arm/disarm the system
    • Monitor laser output status
    • View active laser wavelength
    • See digital clock and system health
  • Laser Override Button – Used under controlled procedures to override the safety interlocks, typically in service or supervised scenarios.
  • E-Stop Break Glass Units – Additional emergency stop units are mounted inside the theatre for immediate laser shutdown.
  • Quad Distribution Box – Connects up to four lasers. Each laser has:
    • Coded sockets to match specific wavelengths
    • LED indicators showing connection and operational status
  • E-Stop Mushroom Button – A large emergency button positioned near the laser area, within reach during procedures.

How It Works:

  1. Safety First: All interlock inputs (door status, E-Stops, etc.) must be in a safe state before the system can be armed.
  2. User Authentication: The user enters a 4-digit PIN on the keypad. If correct, the keyswitch can be activated.
  3. System Arming: When all conditions are safe, the “Safety OK” indicator turns green. The user can now press the Arm button on the ICS-TOUCH II screen.
  4. Visual Alerts: LED signs update automatically—”No Hazard” when off, “Danger Laser On” when armed.
  5. Laser Control: The quad distribution box controls up to four individual lasers, each monitored independently by the system.

ICS-TOUCH II us a high-integrity laser interlock controller designed to be the central safety system in laser-controlled areas, such as medical theatres, laboratories, and critical laser zones. It’s primary function is to protect personnel by disabling laser operation the moment any connected safety condition is compromised.
