High-Integrity Safety Laser Beam Shutters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lasermet’s LS-20 Series beam shutters are designed to form part of a high-integrity safety system and features a gravity-close blade and force-disconnect proving contacts. When closed, the shutter deflects the incoming laser beam onto an internal\u00a0beam dump\u00a0where the energy is converted to heat which is dissipated in the aluminum casing of the shutter. When the shutter is open, the laser beam passes through the shutter without interruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SIL Rated Version<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A \u2018SIL3\u2019 version is available which, when correctly wired to a Lasermet Interlock\u00ae<\/sup> Control System, can provide a safety Interlock\u00ae<\/sup> which meets Safety Integrity Level 3 to EN61508 and Performance Level \u2018e\u2019 to EN ISO 13849-1.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Control Options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Standard operation is by means of the \u2018Open\u2019 and \u2018Close\u2019 buttons on top of the shutter case. The shutter can be operated remotely using a remote switching station (LS-RS20). Alternatively, the shutter can be programmed to open as soon as power is turned on. When the power is turned off, the shutter will always close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connection to Beam Tube System<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The LS-20 has 16mm diameter entry and exit apertures. These are threaded and beam tubes can be supplied to fit to the shutter case and enclose the laser beam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beam Shutter for High Power Lasers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The maximum average power for use with the internal beam dump is 20W. However for higher powers the beam dump can be easily removed by unscrewing it from the side of the shutter case. Beam tubes can be fitted and the beam can be directed to a remote beam dump. This allows the shutter to be used for much higher powers, even for multi-kilowatt lasers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Shutter Blade Options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The shutter blade is made of stainless steel, which is suited to the majority of applications. If necessary, standard front silvered or dielectric mirrors can be factory installed on the blade. When using the remote beam dump option, this is generally recommended for average powers in excess of 20W. It is also recommended when using Q-switched lasers, which can cause minor ablation of the blade even when the average power is less than 20W.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LS-20 shutter is equipped with an M6 female thread in the base, located under the beam centerline. An anti-rotation slot is also provided in the base into which a second M6 stud should be located to prevent the shutter turning or coming unscrewed. The slot allows for posts on imperial and metric optical breadboards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LS-20 shutters are supplied with a permanently connected, 3m long lead, terminated with a 15 pin high density D connector (male). If required this can be extended by use of one or more 3m leads (part no. LEAD-LS20-3M).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Laser Beam Power Measurement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When fitted with a mirror, the LS-20 allows for simple laser beam power measurement. The beam dump can be removed and a laser power meter detector head installed on the shutter’s side. When the shutter is closed, a power or energy reading can be obtained in this manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remote Shutter Control<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LS-RS30 Remote Shutter Switching Station<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

A remote switching station is available, allowing the shutter to be opened and closed by pressing buttons remote from the shutter itself. As well as start and stop buttons there is LED indication of \u2018power on\u2019, \u2018open\u2019 and \u2018closed\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
