All Dentists in Wales operating Class 3B or Class 4 Lasers, are required by law to register with the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW).

This is in addition to the Private Dentistry (Wales) Regulations 2008. If you have registered with the HIW as a private dentist but have not registered your laser, you must submit a further application to the HIW.

Laser Protection Advisor (LPA) and Expert Dental Practitioner (EDP) Support

It is a requirement of Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) registration that an LPA is contracted to the practice and provides a safe system of work (ie local rules) and ongoing safety advice.

An EDP is similarly required to provide medical protocols and ongoing medical advice and support.

Our LPA /EDP service satisfies the requirements of the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) and includes the following:

LPA Support

As required by HIW including:

  • Annual site inspection and audit
  • Provision of Local Rules
  • Provision of a Risk Assessment and Action Plan for the premises
  • Ongoing support

EMP Support

As required by HIW including:

  • Provision of Dental Protocols for each treatment type
