Lasermet Inc., based in Schaumburg, Illinois, supports the design, manufacture and installation of laser safety cabins for North America.

Lasermet Inc specialises in laser safety and produces modular laser safety cabins. These are designed, manufactured and installed by Lasermet Inc to conform to the laser safety standards ANSI Z136.1

The Laser Castle has been developed from many years of experience in the field of laser safety and numerous installations have been completed worldwide. The design has been extensively tested and incorporates the latest, advanced, failsafe laser safety interlock control system. The ICS-6 "ELISe" Interlock Controller accepts inputs to ensure the doors are securely closed and other safety features are activated, before enabling the laser to be fired.

The Laser Castle

The Laser Castle is Lasermet's laser safety cabin designed specifically to protect workers from the dangers of high powered laser by absorbing the laser energy in the walls and roof.

These modular, Class 1, room-sized enclosures are tested and certified to ANSI laser safety standards (Z136.1 American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers) and can be rapidly designed, built and installed by Lasermet.

They are supplied with Lasermet's interlock controller and high quality, dual message, dual color, low voltage, illuminated LED signs. Lasermet's audible warning sign (the Audio Alert) can also be included. A CCTV system covers the operation inside the cabin and provision is made for fume extraction, making this a cost effective and easy method of safely enclosing the laser system, which then complies to the ANSI Z136.1 laser safety standards.

The typical standard laser room is 21'8" wide, 18'0" high and 11'6" high (6.6 x 5.5 x 3.5m) and custom laser enclosures can be designed to suit customer requirements. The completed system provides an effective and ANSI Z136 compliant, industrial laser safety barrier for laser manufacturing environments.

Active "Laser Jailer" upgrade option

The passive cabin can be upgraded to an active laser safety cabin by incorporating the "Laser Jailer" Active Laser Guarding System (US Patent No. 8 416 820). The internal walls, doors and roof of the cabin are all covered with tiles which detect high powered laser beam strikes. If this happens, Lasermet's active, fail-safe, guarding technology isolates the laser safety input in less than 50ms. The laser responds to this laser termination signal and the laser radiation is terminated.

Suitability

The cabins are ideal to house laser welding robots that need to be contained as they typically use 4kW fibre lasers in their operations. Higher powered lasers can also be accommodated. For example, the Laser Jailer active laser guarding system is currently providing protection from a 20kW fibre laser.

Ventilation

Vents are built into the walls of the enclosure to enable fume extraction.
